🎨 The story of The Starry Night

Painted in June 1889, during the voluntary hospitalization of Vincent van Gogh at the asylum of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the work depicts the view from his room before dawn — but with poetic freedom: the village is imagined and the sky in spirals, with a bright moon and stars, reflects the emotional turmoil of the artist.

The short, dense brushstrokes (impasto) and the contrast of blues and yellows make the canvas a symbol of Post-Impressionism. Initially received with coldness, it has become one of the most famous paintings in the world and, since 1941, has belonged to the MoMA in New York.
